Plastic waste piles up faster than most of us can keep track. Champion Bags—Thailand’s leading eco-friendly trash bag brand, stocked in over 20 000 stores—offers Filipinos a practical way to push back. A recent contract-signing event in Bangkok confirmed the brand’s expansion, opening the door to cleaner routines for local households.
A mission with clear intent

The Philippine rollout is driven by Joshua Abrera Janairo, founder of Sustainable Strategic, a Singapore-based holding firm that distributes sustainable Fast-Moving Consumer Goods.
“I’ve always been an eco-conscious consumer. During my graduate studies at the Asian Institute of Management, sustainability was a central theme, and my professors instilled in me the importance of integrating it into business. Consumers today are more informed than ever, and I believe now is the best time to introduce products that are both purposeful and sustainable,” Janairo says.
A retail partner first showed him Champion Bags in late 2023 after witnessing its success in Thailand. By July 2024, Sustainable Strategic had secured regional distribution rights, ensuring Filipino shoppers could finally reach for a trash bag that backs up its green claims.
Why Champion Bags stands out
Many liners labelled “eco-friendly” still rely on oxo-degradable plastics. Research shows those bags crumble into microplastics that contaminate oceans, soil, and even food, prompting bans in the European Union (2021) and Canada (2024). Champion Bags takes another route, using recycled plastic that supports circular-economy principles without needing new processing facilities.
- Less plastic waste – repurposed material helps keep rubbish out of landfills and oceans.
- Stronger, long-lasting bags – designed to resist tears and leaks during everyday use.
- Works right now – no specialised composting sites required.
“One of the biggest things I’ve learned about sustainability is that it must be adapted to a market’s unique conditions. In the Philippines, we rely on landfill-based waste management. Instead of waiting for large-scale infrastructure changes, we need immediate solutions that work within our reality,” Janairo explains.
