February 20, 2025

February 20, 2025

Known for its meticulous standards, it recognizes top restaurants and chefs worldwide. Which local spots do you think will earn a star?

Filipinos don’t just love food—we live and breathe it. From intimate family gatherings to grand fiestas that bring together an entire barangay, food is always at the heart of every celebration. No feast feels complete without tables filled with beloved dishes—crispy lechon, crunchy lumpia, and the ever-popular adobo.

That’s why Filipinos are known for being meticulous about food. But will our local favorites meet the high standards of the world’s most prestigious restaurant guide?

Here’s What We Know So Far About Michelin Debuting Philippines Guide in 2026

The Michelin Guide has officially set its sights on the Philippines! This global authority in fine dining announced its expansion into Manila and Cebu, with inspections also covering the surrounding areas of Pampanga, Tagaytay, and Cavite. Michelin will reveal the first-ever selection for the Philippines in late 2025—a major milestone for the country’s vibrant culinary scene.

Many restaurateurs and chefs dream of making a name in the competitive food industry. This announcement presents both a challenge and an opportunity. It allows them to prove their skills and creativity. They can also showcase the depth of Filipino flavors to the world.

How Restaurants Are Preparing for Michelin

The Michelin Guide is the ultimate stamp of approval, one that can turn a restaurant into a global dining destination. Michelin’s anonymous inspectors will secretly dine in select restaurants, judging them on ingredient quality, mastery of techniques, balance of flavors, originality, and consistency. Only the best of the best will earn a coveted Michelin star—one star means “worth a stop,” two stars signal “worth a detour,” and three stars? That’s “worth a special journey.”

As per Michelin Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec: “Our Michelin Inspectors have been following the evolution of the Filipino culinary scene with great excitement. The country’s deep-rooted culinary traditions, combined with a strong openness to global influences, create a uniquely diverse dining culture.”

He noted that young, talented chefs in Manila have redefined Filipino cuisine with fresh ideas. Cebu has also grown into a top tourist destination. It offers stunning sites, rich history, and diverse dining experiences with world-class hospitality.

With Michelin officially entering the Philippines, the anticipation is at an all-time high. Will a humble carinderia or an innovative fine dining establishment be the first to earn a star?

Well, if you’re always stuck in the “Where should we eat?” debate with your friends, family, or S.O., the Michelin’s picks will definitely be worth checking out. So, which spot do you think will make the cut? Let’s hear your predictions!
