Shrek The Musical is coming to Manila! The story of Shrek, the big green ogre with a kind heart, will be performed at the Newport Performing Arts Theater from October to December 2025, bringing this fun and heartwarming tale to life on stage.
The musical is produced by Newport World Resorts and Full House Theater Company and is based on William Steig’s book Shrek! and the DreamWorks Animation film. With music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, this Broadway hit first premiered in 2008 and has since entertained audiences worldwide.
A Creative Team Bringing the Magic to Life
A team of experienced theater professionals is bringing Shrek The Musical to Manila. Michael Williams will direct the production, with Cara Barredo as the assistant director.
Dexter Santos will handle musical staging, making sure the scenes flow smoothly, while Stephen Viñas will create exciting dance routines. Rony Fortich, a well-known music director, will lead the musical arrangements to ensure the songs sound amazing. With this team in charge, the Manila production of Shrek The Musical is sure to be a fantastic show.
Auditions Open for All Adult Roles
The production is holding open auditions for adults who want to be part of the show. Auditions will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Meeting Room 1, 3rd Floor, Hilton Manila. Registration will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and auditions will be from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
The team is casting for major roles, including Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, and Lord Farquaad. Other roles include the Dragon, Gingy, Pinocchio, and the Big Bad Wolf. There will also be ensemble roles for fairytale creatures, guards, and knights. Applicants should have strong singing skills, and some roles will also require dancing.
To audition, applicants must prepare 32 bars of a song from a musical and bring a minus-one track for playback. They must also submit a CV (resume), a 3R-sized headshot, a full-body photo, and a completed registration form.
Rehearsals will start on August 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. During Tech Week, rehearsals will extend to 11:00 PM to ensure everything is perfect before the show opens.
Performances will run from October to December 2025 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. With its mix of comedy, adventure, and catchy songs, Shrek The Musical promises to be one of the most exciting theater productions of the year.
