Taylor Swift Announces ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ Her 12th Album with a Sabrina Carpenter Feature

August 14, 2025

August 14, 2025

Taylor Swift announced her new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ for an October 3 release. She also revealed the album’s cover art and tracklist, which features a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on the title track.

Taylor Swift confirmed the news on her social media. She also made an appearance on the “New Heights Show” podcast, co-hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. The announcement follows a period of fan speculation. This was fueled by a countdown clock on Swift’s website and a series of cryptic clues. Longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback produced the album. It marks their first full-album partnership with Swift in nearly a decade.

A Look Behind the Showgirl’s Curtain

On the “New Heights” podcast, Swift shared that the album was inspired by her “inner life” during the Eras Tour. She described the project as a look at what was happening “behind the scenes,” rather than a show about life on stage. “This album is about what was going on behind the scenes of my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant,” she explained.

The record is also noted to be a shift in sound from her most recent release, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Kelce mentioned that the new music is “a lot more upbeat, and it’s a lot more like fun, pop,” a sentiment that Swift agreed with.

Unveiling the Tracklist and Collaborators

Swift confirmed that the album will contain a deliberate 12 songs. There will be “no other songs coming.” This is a stark contrast to her previous releases, which often included multiple bonus tracks. The 12-song tracklist is as follows:

  1. The Fate of Ophelia
  2. Elizabeth Taylor
  3. Opalite
  4. Father Figure
  5. Eldest Daughter
  6. Ruin the Friendship
  7. Actually Romantic
  8. WihLit
  9. Wood
  10. Cancelled!
  11. Honey
  12. The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter)

Swift expressed her excitement over reuniting with producers Max Martin and Shellback, whom she described as “geniuses.” She noted that working with them again felt “like catching lightning in a bottle,” and that they aimed to create an album “so focused on quality and on the theme.”

The Album Art and Visuals

The album’s cover art, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, features Taylor Swift in a silver beaded bra top and bracelets, partially submerged in water. She explained that the image represents the end of a show night, a moment of reflection after the chaos of a performance. Taylor has been teasing a vibrant orange and turquoise color palette for the visuals with outfits and confetti throughout the Eras Tour.

Pre-orders for the album are now available on Taylor Swift’s website, with variants including a glitter orange vinyl, deluxe CD, and cassette.
