‘True Philippine Ghost Stories’ Makes a Creepy Comeback, Invites Filipinos to Share Personal Horror Encounters

Those spine-chilling tales that brought you your most terrifying nightmares are back.

While the youth of today are busy slaying fashion trends and squealing over their favorite K-pop stans, millennials back then grew up in horror thanks to the stories published in the Filipino-favorite horror anthology, the True Philippine Ghost Stories.

Within the boundless depths of the Filipino-favorite horror anthology, True Philippine Ghost Stories, lies a compilation that has plunged numerous students into the realms of sheer terror. Contained within its pages are bone-chilling horror stories and spine-tingling urban legends that have relentlessly haunted the minds of those who dared to delve into their nightmarish depths.

These books became so popular among teenagers that they often brought them to school and shared them with their classmates and friends. True Philippine Ghost Stories became so popular that in 2004, GMA Network adapted the stories for a program hosted by Dingdong Dantes, titled Wag Kukurap.

This year, the cult horror book series makes a comeback— granting Filipinos the chance to immerse themselves in its chilling tales and revisit the narratives that once haunted their dreams and provoked profound contemplation. Along with this, the publishing company behind True Philippine Ghost Stories provides an opportunity for those who have terrifying stories to share to contribute to the relaunch of the best-selling book that made all Filipino kids scream in horror.

Got a Horror Story to Tell? Submit Your Eerie Encounter to True Philippine Ghost Stories!

Local publisher behind Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo? and Diary ng Panget is now calling for submissions from those who have spine-tingling tales to tell. For the relaunch of True Philippine Ghost Stories, PSICOM Publishing, Inc. announced last May 15 its search for the best horror stories for its “extraordinary comeback”.

As per PSICOM’s post on social media: “Seize the opportunity to contribute to the relaunch of the bestselling book series and leave your mark on its extraordinary comeback”. Well, if you think you have the perfect story to tell, take note of the following mechanics:

  1. Follow the theme of True Philippine Ghost Stories.
  2. Make sure that your story contains 800 to 2,000 words.
  3. You may write in either English, Tagalog, or Taglish.
  4. Make sure that the story you have submitted has never been published elsewhere—be it in part or full.

Prepare to unleash the dark and enthralling tales that have haunted you and your friends for far too long. It’s time to break free from the confines of your inner circle and share these spine-chilling narratives with the world—each story carefully crafted to entice and captivate. Feel free to infuse them with twists, omit select details, or even embellish them, transforming them into irresistible gems that will leave your audience spellbound and craving more.

Deadline for submissions for the True Philippine Ghost Stories is June 30, 2023. Make sure to send your email to tpgs2023@gmail.com. If you need a little inspiration, you may read through the previous publication of the series in the online version of the series through the PSICOM app.
