The Studio Ghibli Weekend mini-film festival takes place at Shangri-La Plaza’s Red Carpet Cinema.

In a world where we can stream almost anything, choices can feel overwhelming. Watching from home is convenient. However, scrolling through countless shows and movies can make choosing feel draining.

Sometimes, entertainment itself can feel more like a chore than an escape. If you’re longing for a break from endless options and digital screens, this might just be the perfect antidote: going back to the classics, say Studio Ghibli films.

Let’s admit it: there’s something uniquely soothing about Studio Ghibli films—a certain vibe of warmth and wonder that makes them timeless. Whether you’re discovering them for the first time or revisiting your favorites, Ghibli’s films offer an enchanting escape.

Miyazaki’s cinematic worlds mix magic with the familiar, showing us ordinary life painted in extraordinary colors. The hand-drawn animations are stunning, the characters feel like old friends, and the stories resonate with a range of emotions that linger long after the credits roll.

If you need some soul-soothing nostalgia, this festival is for you. It’s a wholesome activity to enjoy with friends and family.

Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Studio Ghibli Weekend Mini Film Festival in Manila

Founded in 1985, Studio Ghibli has crafted a collection of 24 feature films that have shaped the animation industry, with classics like the critically acclaimed Spirited Away and the latest release, The Boy and the Heron.

Last August, Miyazaki was one of five recipients of this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Awards. He was honored alongside notable figures. These include environmentalist Farwiza Farhan and cultural preservationist Karma Phuntsho.

Also recognized were Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, an advocate for Agent Orange victims. Additionally, the Rural Doctors Movement in Thailand celebrated a collective of healthcare professionals.

This event celebrates Miyazaki’s incredible achievements and his lasting influence on storytelling and imagination. If you crave real cinema magic, this is your chance. Enjoy it in full-screen glory. Let Studio Ghibli remind you of the beauty of slowing down.

Find magic in the simplest moments and take a well-deserved break from the digital grind.
