Behold: Miss Philippines Now Welcomes Moms and Wives to Join the Pageant!

September 6, 2023

September 6, 2023
After ditching the swimsuit competition, the organizers of Miss Philippines revealed another change for their competition.

All women—whether single, married, or mother—are queens. With this premise, the organizers of Miss Philippines have officially announced that they are opening their doors, allowing mothers and wives to participate in the annual beauty pageant.

This move closely mirrors the approach taken by its sister pageant, Miss Universe Philippines, where three mothers are presently participating in this year’s competition.

“You don’t have to give up your dreams of joining a pageant yet because we believe that mothers and married women can be as effective as single women at being influencers and advocates of Philippine Culture and Heritage.”

Interested in Joining? Applications are Still Ongoing!

With its intentions to reinvent the country’s pageant scene, Miss Philippines highlighted on its social media page: “Not your usual pageant. Here’s to a unique way of gathering beautiful Filipinas around the world.”

One of the modifications implemented by the organization involves the elimination of the conventional swimsuit competition. Instead, they have introduced a formal wear segment that resembles a “red carpet moment” akin to the Cannes festival.

Also, candidates need to deliver TED Talk-type speeches, discussing how they can promote the Philippines to the world. All interested applicants, regardless of civil status, are welcomed as long as they are female, of Filipino heritage, and between 18 – 32 years of age.

If you believe you possess the qualities to represent the Philippines, you can still submit your applications, as the process is currently ongoing. The last round of screenings is scheduled for September 9. While the pageant itself is slated for October, the exact date for the coronation night has not been disclosed as of yet.

The winners of this year’s Miss Philippines competition will participate in the upcoming Miss Supranational and Miss Charm pageants. It’s worth noting that Pauline Amelinckx was crowned first runner-up in the Miss Supranational 2023 competition.

At the same time, Mister Pilipinas Worldwide, the male counterpart affiliated with this pageant, has taken a similar step by welcoming married men with children to participate in the competition.

Indeed, it takes progressive changes to reflect a broader shift towards inclusivity—and this move by Miss Philippines has greatly inspired many individuals from various backgrounds and life stages to showcase their talents and represent the country on the global stage. We look forward to witnessing their remarkable journeys as they compete and inspire us all.
