Long-Running Philippine Drama Anthology ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ Returns this April!

April 17, 2025

April 17, 2025

Ready to shed tears over strangers’ life stories and guess the episode title once again?

‘Dear Charo’—for sure those two words alone can instantly bring back a flood of memories, whether it’s crying your heart out on a quiet Saturday night, getting swept up in a stranger’s kilig-filled love story, or learning a life lesson that stuck with you longer than most school lectures ever did.

For many Filipinos, especially millennials and Gen Z who grew up with their parents, grandparents, or yayas, tuning in to Maalaala Mo Kaya, MMK was more than just a show. It was a collective emotional experience, a cultural household staple, and a reminder that every person has a story worth telling.

And now, after two years of being off the air, MMK is making a heartfelt comeback this April 24. No more just reminiscing through random Facebook clips or crying at MMK throwback TikToks—it’s really back, and we’re once again invited to cry, laugh, and feel all the feels with stories straight from the heart of the Filipino experience.

Here’s What We Know So Far About MMK’s Comeback

In a special video posted on ABS-CBN’s official platforms, Charo Santos herself shared the good news. The beloved drama anthology will return as a limited series, premiering on iWantTFC on April 24. Just 48 hours later, episodes will also be available on A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live, and the Kapamilya Channel.

“Dear Charo, namiss kong sabihin ang line na ‘yan at na-miss ko rin kayo,” Charo said in the video. “Malapit na tayong magkasama muli. Maraming Maganda at nakaka-inspire na kwentong MMK ang aming inihanda. Bagong kwento na talagang makaka-relate kayo. Iba naman kasi ang totoong kwento diba.”

Ah, the nostalgia.

Charo Santos shared that this return is something she’s been hoping for. “Ang daming Gen Z na lumaki na nanonood ng MMK kasama ang kanilang mommies and daddies, lolas and lolos. I’m so happy that they know MMK is a brand of good storytelling.”

And what better way to kick things off than with some truly inspiring episodes?

The pilot episode will follow the story of Sofronio Vasquez, the first Asian winner of The Voice USA, portrayed by acclaimed actor Elijah Canlas. Another exciting feature is an episode centered on the popular P-pop girl group, BINI.

Most recently, a video of Charo Santos went viral, where she shared the heartwarming story of how Maalaala Mo Kaya was born: from a paperclip. First airing in 1991, MMK brought real-life stories to the screen, as told by letter senders from all walks of life. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon, resonating so deeply with viewers that it eventually expanded into a radio drama, a 1994 feature film, a comic book adaptation, and more.

When the show ended in 2022, it felt like the closing of a beloved chapter. That’s why this comeback means so much. It’s like reopening your favorite book, but this time it has new stories to tell! Same vibe, same feels, but at the same time a little kind of different.

What MMK episode made such an impact on you that you still remember it today? Which story broke your heart, made you laugh, or healed a wound you didn’t know you had? Whatever this new season brings, one thing is certain: the best stories are still the ones that come from the heart—and MMK is here once again to help us feel them, one letter at a time.
