TBA Studios just dropped some major news: Jericho Rosales is stepping into the shoes of Manuel L. Quezon for their upcoming historical biopic, Quezon. ICYMI, this marks Jericho’s long-awaited return to the big screen after his last film, The Girl in the Orange Dress (2018). And let’s be real, his comeback is about to be legendary.
A Role That Hits Different
Rosales is no stranger to powerful roles, but this one? Next level. He’s taking on Quezon, a leader known for his intelligence, charm, and strategic genius. But don’t expect your typical historical drama. Quezon isn’t painting him as just another hero—it’s diving into the grit, the politics, and the man behind the legacy.
“I feel so honored to be with this team,” Rosales shared. “Coming to a script like this, which is so potent and so entertaining, I feel so lucky and happy. Quezon is not written as a hero—he is cunning, he is charming, he is intelligent. There are so many things I can put into the role to build Quezon as a character. That adds to the pressure, but at the same time, I am very excited.”
The Bayaniverse Expands
If you were obsessed with Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, get ready—Quezon is the latest addition to TBA Studios’ Bayaniverse, a cinematic take on Philippine history.
Alongside Rosales, the film boasts a star-studded cast, including Mon Confiado as Emilio Aguinaldo (yep, Quezon’s political rival) and Benjamin Alves as the younger Quezon. Also on board: Karylle Yuzon as Aurora Quezon, Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, JC Santos as Manuel Roxas, and Cris Villanueva as the older Joven Hernando.
TBA Studios President and COO Daphne Chiu hyped up Jericho’s casting, saying, “Jericho’s unbelievable screen presence has made him one of our best actors today, and we’re all looking forward to seeing how his artistry can give life to one of the country’s most charismatic yet divisive political figures.”
And with more casting announcements on the way, Quezon is shaping up to be one of the biggest films of the year. Set for a local and international release, this is one you won’t want to miss.
