The second installment of the two-part film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical, shown in the new Wicked: For Good trailer, offers a glimpse of Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.
It’s here! The Wicked: For Good trailer has officially landed, and the countdown to Oz’s big finale is officially on. After the success of Wicked: Part One (yes, the one with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo that totally ruled last November), we’re now getting a peek at the epic second half—and it’s full of drama, magic, and major feels.
The last time we saw her, they branded Elphaba as the Wicked Witch and forced her into hiding. Now, she’s back and ready to fight. The new trailer shows Elphaba rising up as she sets out to free the silenced animals of Oz and expose the truth about The Wizard. Elphaba has clearly stopped playing by the rules.
We also got a sneak peek at Dorothy, the girl in the sparkly shoes and her trio—Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion. It looks like the Wizard’s world is about to get even more complicated and interesting at the same time.
So, What We Know So Far About ‘Wicked: For Good’
Directed by Jon M. Chu (yes, the genius behind Crazy Rich Asians), the Wicked movies are adapted from the Broadway musical we’ve been obsessed with forever, which itself was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel that flipped The Wizard of Oz on its head. Since the story is way too big to fit into one film, it was split into two parts: Wicked: Part One, which premiered in November 2024, and Wicked: For Good, which is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas this coming November.
The new Wicked: For Good trailer literally gave us a lot. We see Glinda calling out to Elphaba, asking her to show up at the Royal Palace of Oz. Then we get that classic shadow shot of the Wicked Witch. One of the trailer’s most emotional moments features a teary-eyed Elphaba telling Glinda, “You’re the only friend I ever had.” Glinda’s quiet response hits just as hard: “And I have so many friends. But only one that mattered.”
Another major reveal is the expanded role of Dorothy Gale. For the first time, we see her and her iconic trio—Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion—walking down the Yellow Brick Road. Director Jon M. Chu shared that the film will explore Dorothy’s arrival in a deeper way. It will show how her presence impacts Glinda and Elphaba more meaningfully than in the stage version.
New Twists and Musical Highs
As expected, music plays a huge role in the trailer. Fans will recognize familiar melodies from the original stage production. Another standout moment: Glinda appears in a wedding dress, suggesting a possible marriage to Fiyero. This storyline diverges from the stage version and adds new tension between Glinda and Elphaba. The director explains that this twist adds emotional weight to the overall arc of the story: “It’s harder to forgive certain things in certain scenarios,” he said. “It makes it more complicated.”
With Elphaba growing stronger in her powers—and now declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard and Madame Morrible—everything is building toward a dramatic conclusion.
What’s next for Oz? Which songs do you hope to make it into Part 2? Well, one thing’s clear: as the ‘ber’ months approach, Wicked: For Good is a must-watch finale you won’t want to miss. Keep posted for more updates!
