It’s Back! Floating Book Fair Doulos Hope Returns to the Philippines

March 8, 2024

March 8, 2024
After more than ten years, the floating library makes its way to Manila, Batangas, and La Union, bringing with it shiploads of books from all corners of the globe.

Ah, the sweet smell of new books—those aromatic notes of fresh ink and crisp paper that signal the beginning of an enchanting adventure. For bibliophiles, this sensory delight is more than just a fragrance; it’s an invitation to immerse in the captivating stories and profound ideas that await between the covers.

Well, here’s some good news for you all Filipino book lovers: after over ten years, the world’s largest floating book fair, Doulos Hope, is now sailing on the shores of the Philippines. Currently stationed at the Rivera North Wharf in Subic Bay, the floating book fair is open to registered visitors until March 5, after which it will embark on its journey to La Union, Manila, and Batangas.

Here’s What You Need to Know About Doulos Hope

Since 1970, GBA Ships, the non-profit organization behind Doulos Hope, has been on a mission to share knowledge, foster literacy, and promote international goodwill. Recognized as the world’s largest floating library and book fair, the fleet, including Doulos Hope’s sister ship, Logos Hope, has visited more than 160 countries, warmly welcoming over 50 million visitors aboard.

Chances are, you might vaguely remember visiting Doulos Hope when you were younger. To jog your memory, the last time Doulos Hope graced the Philippines was back in 2012. After undergoing significant renovations, it was reintroduced to the world in May 2023 during its relaunch in Singapore—and now it’s back in the Philippines.

With its massive selection of books sold at an affordable price, it is no wonder why book lovers find themselves irresistibly drawn to the literary haven it creates, fostering a community where the joy of reading is accessible to all. Now, if you’re as excited as we are, here’s another good news for you: the Doulos Hope Book Fair is making three more stops in the Philippines before it sets sail to another country.

Following its visit to Subic, Doulos Hope is set to dock at San Fernando International Seaport, San Fernando, La Union, from March 7 to 24. Subsequently, it will make its way to Manila from March 28 to April 13, 2024, and then move on to Batangas City from April 16 to 28. To ensure a smooth and secure experience exploring the ship, guests are encouraged to book tickets in advance through this website.

As of the latest pricing information for the Subic leg, tickets are priced at P50 per person. Notably, senior citizens, PWDs, and children aged 12 and under enjoy complimentary entry. As of now, registration and booking for La Union, Manila, and Batangas have yet to be opened, so stay tuned for updates. You may also check their official Facebook page for other important announcements.

Are you ready for a literary adventure? Let yourself wonder and wander—and be sure not to miss the opportunity to visit Doulos Hope. Explore this floating book fair, where stories come to life and the joy of reading knows no bounds.
