Meet Rachel Ngan Dueñas: The “Pandemic Painter” Set to Showcase at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris
Rachel Ngan Dueñas, who fondly calls herself a “pandemic painter,” discovered her passion for painting during one of the most challenging times in recent history. Although she began her artistic journey later in life, the 37-year-old has quickly proven that talent knows no age. Her vibrant and evocative pieces have captured the attention of art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Before immersing herself in the world of painting, Rachel was a tea meditation instructor and a certified tea sommelier—one of only two in the Philippines! Her deep connection to tea meditation unexpectedly led her to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. During Paris Fashion Week last year, where she was conducting tea meditations backstage, Rachel crossed paths with Philippine Ambassador Junever Mahilum-West and her delegation. Their meaningful conversations led her to show her work, and impressed with her art, they endorsed Rachel to the organizers of the prestigious show.
But it wasn’t just the ambassador and her team who were impressed by Rachel’s art. In May 2023, Rachel made her solo debut, quickly establishing herself with three successful solo exhibitions. Her journey from Manila to Paris marks a significant milestone as she prepares to make her international debut at the Louvre.
Before heading to Paris, Rachel will host her fourth solo exhibition at the Chef Jessie Rockwell Club in Makati from September 7 to September 30. Simultaneously, during the Carrousel du Louvre event from October 18-20, 2024, she will also showcase her work at the Kwadro Pintura Gallery on October 19-20, 2024.
For those unfamiliar with the Carrousel du Louvre, it’s more than just an underground mall beneath the iconic museum. Twice a year, art collectors and enthusiasts gather for a festival that celebrates the work of emerging artists from around the world. It’s a unique opportunity for artists to present their paintings, sculptures, digital art, or photography in a personal and impactful way.
Guided by Mr. Dhon dela Paz of Kwadro Pintura, a champion of bringing Filipino artists to the international stage, Rachel is set to shine alongside global talents. With her work, she hopes to share the warmth and beauty of the Philippines, drawing inspiration from the country’s tropical flora and fauna, expressed through her abstract and impressionist style.
Have you seen Rachel Ngan Dueñas’ work yet? Keep an eye on her upcoming gallery exhibits—her talent is truly inspiring and proof that Filipino artists are making their mark on the world stage.
