Engkanto Brewery has just clinched the prestigious World’s Best Beer title at the 2024 World Beer Awards—if that’s not a reason to celebrate, what is?
Here’s another reason to raise your glass this long weekend. Engkanto Brewery has triumphed over 70 entries. These entries came from powerhouse countries like Canada, France, the Netherlands, and Brazil. Engkanto’s High Hive Honey Ale was crowned the world’s best. It won in the Flavored Honey and Maple category. This historic win marks the first time a Filipino craft beer has received this honor since 2007.
This monumental achievement not only highlights Engkanto’s excellence but also mirrors the Philippines’ growing influence in the global craft beer scene. Filipinos have long been known for their love of social gatherings, where beer flows freely as part of every celebration. Now, with Engkanto leading the charge, the world is taking notice of our brewing talents.
Cheers to Engkanto Brewery’s High Hive Honey Ale—the World’s Best Beer!
Engkanto Brewery made history by winning five other prestigious awards at the 2024 World Beer Awards. This follows their title for World’s Best Flavored Honey and Maple Beer. Every entry this year earned a medal. This achievement showcases the brewery’s consistent excellence. It also highlights their innovative approach to crafting unique flavors. Beer lovers can savor, enjoy, and celebrate these creations.
Here’s the full rundown of their award-winning lineup:
- Live It Up Lager: Country Winner and Gold Medal (Classic Pilsner Category)
- Green Lava Double IPA: Country Winner and Gold Medal (Imperial/Double IPA Category)
- Mango Nation Hazy IPA: Silver Medal (IPA Session Category)
- Paint Me Purple Ube Lager: Silver Medal (Flavored Beer, Fruit, and Vegetable Category)

As Engkanto’s founder Ian Paradies puts it: “It’s unprecedented, it’s historic, and we’re all ecstatic!” Brewmaster Michael “MJ” Jordan also added, “I’m super stoked and proud of this accomplishment! The fact we’re using local honey is so cool as it really lets the world know that we have top-class ingredients along with a talented team in our brewery.”
Engkanto’s Managing Director, Ricard Basora, also shared his excitement: “Who would’ve thought that a small craft brewery in the Philippines can reach the highest level in brewing the World’s Best Beer, right?”
A Journey of Recognition
But this is actually not the first time Engkanto Brewery has gained international recognition. For four consecutive years, the Filipino brewery has brought home accolades. However, this year’s win marks their highest achievement to date.
In the 2021 Asia Beer Championship, Engkanto won awards for all five of its entries. In 2022, they received the Chairman’s Selection in the International Lager category. The World Beer Awards is a subunit of the World Drinks Awards. It features an acclaimed panel of beer experts. These experts rigorously taste beers to determine the winners.
Thirsty? It’s about time to savor the pride of Filipino craft brewing and toast to Engkanto Brewery’s success. Grab a pint and celebrate this world-class victory!
